Wireless CAD Viewer

Wireless communications is one of the fastest growing software market areas in the near future. DeskArtes is the first to offer real time wireless CAD data transfer over mobile networks. The Wireless CAD Viewer allows the user to connect to his/her workstation with a PDA/smart phone for real time viewing of CAD models. The connection is done using wireless Internet with mobile phone technology.

The wireless system gives users the long wanted freedom when accessing their CAD data customer locations, construction sites or at home. The software allows the user to have access even to very large CAD geometry files and still display them in the mobile environment. The viewing process is based on transmitting compressed computer screen images via the Internet and mobile phone connections to PDA or similar mobile device with graphical capability. In effect, the user can pan, rotate, zoom and take dimensions from the CAD data with the PDA in real time.

The Wireless CAD Viewer is based on the DeskArtes View Expert product amended with highly effective image compression technology from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The first version allows the user to view STL, IGES, VDA and DXF files. The user starts the Wireless CAD Viewer software client program on his PDA. The client program calls to an Internet portal or modem to connect through it to the user computer. The server running in the workstation starts the View Expert software for data display and supplies the path to the correct CAD geometry file. The server sends images from the View Expert display area to the PDA client to be shown to the user. The user can give the display manipulation and dimensioning commands to View Expert through the PDA client/server "XVQ" programs.

The data transfer is safe as we transfer only commands from the client to the server and video stream from the server to the client. No sensitive CAD geometry is sent over the Internet or mobile phone connections.
