1. Question: What are the minimum graphics requirements for the Expert Series ?
Answer:
The minimum screen resolution for running the Expert Series is 1024x768 pixels. The color depth must be at least 16-bit (High Color, 65536 colors). In addition the graphics adapter has to support OpenGL interface.

The 24-bit (True Color) color depth is however recommended. Also a graphics adapter which provides OpenGL acceleration at hardware level is recommended, especially if large models are handled.

2. Question: The Expert Series crashes every time the model is drawn. Why ?
Answer:
The reason to this kind of problems is usually in the graphics adapter driver or its settings. So the following checks and setting changes can be tried to resolve the problem:

1. If there is a newer version of the driver for the graphics adapter available at the web-site of the manufacturer, upgrade the driver on the machine.

2. Disable or decrease the acceleration of the graphics adapter. In different versions of Windows this acceleration setting is found in the following places:

Windows XP:
"Start->Control Panel: Display: Settings: Advanced: Troubleshooting: Hardware acceleration"

Windows 2000:
"Start->Settings->Control Panel: Display: Settings: Advanced: Troubleshooting: Hardware acceleration"

In Windows Vista the acceleration settings are for some graphics adapters only available with graphics card specific tools. If the settings are available they are usually found under "Start->ControlPanel (Classic View): Personalization: Display Settings: Advanced Settings".

3. Test different color depth and screen resolution settings. Usually the TrueColor should be most reliable, but with some graphics cards there migh be problems with that. The minimum color depth for Expert Series is however 16-bit (65536 colors).

3. Question: Why are the models drawn incorrectly with the Nvidia Quadro 4 graphics adapter ?
Answer:
There is a known problem in running DeskArtes Expert Series programs on machines with NVidia Quadro4 graphics adapters. The symptom of the problem is that when drawing the geometries in Expert Series, nothing is shown in the graphics window. The problem appears with all Quadro4 XGL series adapters: 550XGL, 700XGL, 750XGL and 900XGL, with older driver versions.

The problem is fixed in the version 41.03 of the NVidia driver for the Quadro4 graphics adapters, which can be downloaded from the Nvidia web-site www.nvidia.com.

Currently the valid direct links to the driver packages are the following:

NVidia Quadro4 driver v.41.03 for Win2k and XP:
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/41.03/41.03_win2kxp.exe

NVidia Quadro4 driver v.41.03 for WinNT4:
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/41.03/41.03_winnt4.exe

4. The Expert Series crashes in startup with the Matrox G-series graphics adapters. Why ?
Answer:
The default hardware acceleration settings for the Matrox G-series adapters cause DeskArtes Expert Series to crash at startup. The problem appears with all Matrox G-series adapters: G200, G400, G550.

This problem can be solved by disabling the hardware accelerations of the adapter from its settings, which is found in the following places in different versions of Windows:

5. There are black margins shown in the graphics window on Windows 2000. Why ?
Answer:
There is a known problem in the OpenGL library of Windows 2000, that causes black margins to appear at the right and bottom sides of the graphics windows in the Expert Series. The margins usually appear when the window is resized for example at the program startup.

There is no fix for this problem available from Microsoft. According to our tests it has not been fixed in the Service Packs 1, 2 and 3 for Windows 2000.

In the Expert Series the quickest way to refresh the graphics window, and make the black margins to disappear, is to press F8-key on the keyboard twice. This will hide and show again the Model window, which refreshes the graphics window.
