| 1. Question: How much free disk space is needed to install the Expert Series 8.0 programs ? | ||||||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Answer: The needed amount of free disk space depends on the installation package you have chosen to be installed. The spaces needed for the base packages are the following:
With the add-on Import Package for Expert Series 8.0 the needed spaces are the following:
In addition to the disk space needed for the program installation you will also need some free disk space for the models you want to handle with the Expert Series. This space doesn't however have to be on the same disk partition where the program is installed. |
| 2. Question: Installation fails with error message "an error occured moving files: -115". Why ? |
|---|
|
Answer: The most common reason to this error is that you are trying to install the Expert Series in the same directory with a previous Expert Series version, while you are running one of the previous version programs. Then the installation procedure cannot overwrite the program binary, because it is in use. So if you want to install a newer version of Expert Series on top of a previous version, make sure first that you exit all the previous version programs, before running the installation. |
| 3. Question: Installation from a CD fails with error message "an error occured moving files: -117". Why ? |
|---|
|
Answer: This error typically appears when installing Expert Series from a CD-R disk, which was separately written by DeskArtes or one of the distributors. The error is caused by incompatibilities between the CD-R writer devices, the reading CD drives and the CD-R media. If this happens, you can try to use another CD drive to read in the contents of the disk and then run the installation from the hard disk. If the same version is also available at DeskArtes web-site, you can try to download it. If neither of these helps, then report about the problem for example by email to da@deskartes.fi and ask for a new CD. |
| 4. Question: How can I uninstall the Expert Series 8.0 programs ? |
|---|
|
Answer: The Expert Series 8.0 programs should be uninstalled with the Windows program installation tool, which is found in the Control Panel of Windows: Start->Settings->Control Panel: Add/Remove programs The uninstall procedure can however remove only those files and directories created by the installation. If other files are later added under the installation directory, those have to be removed manually. |
| 5. Question: Why is another program uninstalled, when I try to uninstall one of the Expert Series 8.0 programs ? |
|---|
|
Answer: This can happen especially in the "Add/Remove Programs"-tool of Windows 2000. When the tool is started it automatically selects the first program in the list, while at the same time updating the size and usage information of all the installed programs. The update takes some time and if you select another program while this is happening, you easily end up having a wrong program selected. If you then don't check the selected program again, before pressing the "Remove"-button, you might accidentally uninstall a wrong program. To make sure that you get the correct program uninstalled, you should wait until the first program in the list gets selected. Then change the selection to the program you want to uninstall and wait until its size and usage information is updated. Only then press the "Remove"-button. |
| 6. Question: What is the correct order to uninstall the Import Package and the Expert Series base package ? |
|---|
|
Answer: The Import Package should be uninstalled before the base package, on top of which it was installed. So the correct uninstall order is first Import Package and then the base package. If the uninstall is done vice versa, the base package installation directory cannot be removed by the uninstall, because the Import Package components are still inside the same directory. The directory can however be removed manually after the uninstall of the Import Package. |
