DeskArtes 3Data Expert version 8.1 – speeds up Data Reduction for Simulation

DeskArtes has today launched the 3Data Expert 8.1, Dimensions Expert 8.1 and View Expert 8.1 software packages. 3Data Expert and other Expert Series tools are perfect for data preparation for 3D Printing and Simulation applications and now also for Augmented Reality applications!

The main improvements with 3Data Expert 8.1 are done for the data reduction functionality:

• New Reduce command is implemented. New Reduce command allows you to reduce STL, VRML and ZPR data in a controlled manner while preserving the geometry features, surface colors and textures in the result. It can also handle extremely large models with millions of triangles in a matter of minutes.

• Repairing large models with millions of triangles is made possible through fully dynamic data structures.

• Undo/Redo command display user controllable.

• Experienced users are accommodated by "Don't show this anymore" settings in message boxes.

• Complex model display made significantly faster.

The same improvements are available for Dimensions Expert and View Expert softwares as well.

New triangle data reduction

The new Reduce command allows you to reduce STL, VRML and ZPR data effectively and accurately. Different reduction modes enable precise user control over the reduction operation, producing optimal results for simulation applications and 3D printing. Geometric features of the model are preserved by easy to use tolerances.

In the image below a densely triangulated model on the left hand side is reduced to a fraction (5%) of the original number of triangles seen on the right hand side, effectively cutting simulation times:

Colors and textures are also accurately kept during the reduction operation, making the new Reduce command with 3Data Expert a must for Augmented Reality application developers or game developers!
