How to improve car component logistics and assembly?

DeskArtes 3D Locator software is a tool for improved car component logistics and assembly line operations. 3D Locators enable more efficient component packing (up to 70% less air) for oversea transportation as well as more efficient assembly line operations at the plant with robots, grippers and automatically guided vehicles. The video shows the grey contoured 3D Locator plates in action at CRF test plant in Melfi, allowing accurate picking and positioning of car parts. 3D Locator software and process was developed in co-operation with CRF, Aalto University and DeskArtes during the years 2018 – 2019 as part of EIT Digital OEDIPUS project framework. DeskArtes will release the 3D Locator software module at Formnext 2019 exhibition. Please visit us for a demonstration at booth 11.0 A44.

How to select a suitable AM process for your part?

DeskArtes AM Expert module allows searching for professional AM systems automatically based on the user defined criteria. The wizard-like tool asks for the necessary parameters (size, material, tensile strength, ...) and automatically produces a list of AM systems capable of manufacturing your part. The tool is useful for engineers, designers and manufacturing as well as sales and management personnel when navigating through the quickly changing AM landscape. Please have a look at the attached video and visit us at Formnext show 19.-22. November in Frankfurt (booth 11.0 A44).

Many thanks to the Project Worker Team from SIEMENS. Together with Uni Aalto and SIEMENS we ran a joint EU funded project to support additive manufacturing by a suitable decision system. This decision system was implemented on base of the knowledge graph library of the Project Worker. For us it was very beneficial, that we could easily integrate the resulting system into our own 3D Data Processing software. For this use case there was no need to setup on the Project Worker Runtime. Already the implementation and integration of this decision system showed us the power and flexibility of the Project Worker Platform. For more information, please contact DeskArtes managing director Ismo Mäkelä.

DeskArtes partner in I AM RRI project (EU) has developed a unique and advanced patient specific implant manufacturing process, please see the video link below. For more information, please contact DeskArtes managing director Ismo Mäkelä or Ignas Gudas at Ortho Baltic directly.

June 2018: DeskArtes joining I AM RRI project

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a key enabling technology in high value manufacturing. The global AM market is on the rise and in 2016 the industry was valued at $6 billion with 93% being attributed to industrial applications. Evolving novel innovation networks, perfectly represented by the emerging, rather complex and highly dynamic AM industry sector, are frequently characterized by entirely new business models, high development and adaption rates, as well as strong technology diffusion within the economy.

I AM RRI will investigate the AM innovation network in order to facilitate a better understanding and the modelling of the dynamics of its complex web of innovation value chains including openings for responsible research and innovation (RRI). In-depth investigation of the AM innovation network, accompanied by open stakeholder and foresight processes, will establish a comprehensive knowledge base and thorough understanding of the network’s components, processes and interconnections, forming the foundation for building a dynamic model.

The model will allow deepening the understanding of the AM innovation system even further and to simulate/govern rapidly developing and complex future changes of the network and its crisscrossing value chains. As core component of I AM RRI, use cases for automotive and medical AM application will be conducted in order to refine the model and to showcase its applicability and adaptability.

The I AM RRI outcomes developed in the course of I AM RRI will be made available to the broad open science community and to stakeholders/policy makers, strengthening research and business, and fostering the evolvement of other novel innovation networks. Strategic guidelines will be defined to initiate institutional change. Identified RRI openings within the AM innovation network will support smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in Europe. I AM RRI will promote AM in Europe as a globally competitive, innovative and world leading key technology.
